Presentation will describe the role of grief/loss on the mental/emotional/physical/relational health of children and youth. Will include current data on the frequency of common conditions and the possible outcomes such as substance use disorder, suicide and suicidal ideation and physical impacts. Will also briefly discuss how the developing brain of children are impacted for life by challenges experienced in childhood. Finally - will describe some interventions available to families and professionals throughout Ohio. ​

OBJECTIVES:

**​Participants will be able to explain various terms used to describe the experiences that lead to trauma and grief among children and youth. ​
​**Participants will understand how current Public Health data describe the incidence and frequency of ACE/loss experiences as well as the common results of unresolved loss/grief.
**Participants will be able to generally describe the broad ways in which ACEs and loss impact brain development in children and youth.
​**Participants will be able to identify at least three ways they can find/use local resources to help mitigate the impact of grief/loss on the children/youth in their care and in their community.​
